Rhonda's soulful delivery and thought-provoking topics are always sure to inspire and entertain audiences. A regular on the arts and culture scene, she is equally comfortable in front of small and large audiences.
Born in metro Detroit, she approaches poetry the way musicians approach music. "My poetry is meant to be heard. I always think about the rhythm and the flow of the words. That is as important to me as the message."
Her biggest influences are Gil Scott Heron, Phoebe Snow, and Langston Hughes. The only poet featured during the Detroit Institute of Arts Re-opening ceremonies, Rhonda's work fuses poetry and music. Whether it's life, love, loss, self-realization or faith, few topics are off-limits.
Her work has been heard at the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Campus Martius, the Ford Performing and Community Arts Center, Marygrove College, churches, halls and a number of other venues. She resides in metro Detroit, Michigan. EPK - Rhonda Welsh
